Thalia Hall Kicks Off Lollapalooza Weekend Right!
People lined up around the block July 31st to attend the free SPIN Lollapalooza Kick Off Party featuring Interpol, Wildcat! Wildcat! and Gemini Club, all of which were gearing up to hit the stages of Lollapalooza that weekend.
It was well worth the wait as people poured into the theater, ready to kick off the madness of Lollapalooza weekend in style. The crowd was filled with music fans and industry professionals alike, all looking forward to the performances that followed.
Wildcat! Wildcat! kicked off the night strong with their ethereal yet energetic performance and was followed by Chicago’s own Gemini Club who got the crowd grooving with their electronic pop tunes.
Interpol hit the stage as fog filled the room, and they didn’t disappoint. They performed with the sense of purpose, skill and energy that they are known for and their set kept the house packed until the very end. The band started with the untouchable “Obstacle 1” and sprinkled songs from their timeless, groundbreaking first album, Turn On the Bright Lights, throughout the set. Tracks from all of their previous albums were included in the set list and they even included some new songs, like “All The Rage Back Home,” which will be included in their new record, El Pintor, out September 8th on Matador. All in all, the band did what the do best: Delivered their driving, post-punk inspired rock to a packed crowd of rabid fans.
Our sister venue, The Empty Bottle, was one of the first venues to host Interpol in Chicago when they were initially blowing up, way back in 2002. Not a lot has changed with Interpol in the past 12 years, and that’s a good thing. It was an honor to have them play our hall.
Sponsors of the event included Red Bull Sound Select, Rabbl, Do312, Anthemic and BMI.
